Types of Pitches
Overview: The three types of pitches below will give you three different ways to represent your brand.
1. Pitch I: The "Who-What Why"
This pitch is great for any situation and is often the most used. It is used to open conversations, typically in an event or networking-specific setting. It can act as a filter to gauge interest and signal if a person is worth your time. It clearly tells your audience who you are, what you do and why you do it.
2. Pitch II: The "Action-Impact-Call"
This pitch is often used for people who want to explain what they do and the impact that their work makes in the world. It is often used when you’ve settled into a conversation with another individual or a group, where you feel comfortable putting forth an “ask.” This pitch is strong because it clearly defines the "ask," or the "call," for the audience, which puts the ball into their court.
3. Pitch III: The "Industry-Reason-Impact-Call" (IRIC)
This pitch is often used by those that either have a bit more time during their pitches and aren't worried about being interrupted or rushed (for example, in a formal introduction, an interview or other scheduled meeting). This pitch goes deeper into the meaning of why you are in a particular industry or area, what impact you are making and what you are looking for from the audience. This a good pitch if you know the rough career direction you want or have, but not a specific task or action.
